When I was still young I remember the candle store of my grandmother. It is frequently visited by so many people from our place and even from the nearby town. People go there for two basic reasons; one is because it is the only candle store in town which is more accessible than going into the city. My grandmother maybe saw it as a great business opportunity. Most households then consider candle as a necessity, in as much as we consider a kitchen without salt incomplete. Electricity is not a basic thing then and so most houses depend on candles and kerosene fueled lamp for lighting. The second reason is because grandmother makes quality candle. All candles in her store are specially crafted by her own hand. In fact, the store started with only her doing all the works. It was only recently that she already needed some workers to assist her reach high daily production quota to meet the increasing demand. When grandmother can no longer manage the store because of her age she then handed down the business to mother who continued what grandmother started. Presently, the candle store is still very much alive in our town and the thing is that it already spread in other towns and even in the city. We already have branches in different places and we already have established a name in the candle industry. The whole family is now known because of the business. A small and simple store started by grandmother has now become a family enterprise. We will keep it growing as a living legacy of grandmother.
